Negative Space.

I really like images with negative space in them. I posted the image below last week however, this time I turned it from a portrait to a landscape by adding some negative space. You can't do this with every image because of differing backgrounds but in this case it worked nicely.

Week 37

In other news.
I don't have photoshop on my Mac and I've been missing it. I downloaded a trial of Photoshop Elements to see if it has the things I need. I just started playing around with it yesterday and it seems to have all the major tools that I need/use. This is fantastic news because a licensed copy of Photoshop CS4 is $699usd and a licensed copy of Elements is only $89usd. Better yet, if I do find myself missing CS4 I can always upgrade from Elements and Adobe will discount the price by the $89 that I invested into Elements!
Here are the top 10 tools that I use on almost every photo: (Elements provides all of them)
1) Unsharp Mask
2) Dodge/Burn
3) High Pass Filter (Great for "popping" eyes)
4) Magic Lasso
5) Layers
6) Layers
7) Layers
8) Layers
9) Layers
10) Layers

Layers are important. Trust me.

No matter what level you are at in photography, or no matter what kind of camera you have, Elements is a great compliment. It's fairly cheap and will really allow you to be creative.
